Level 1 Award Food Safety in Catering 
This qualification is ideal for anyone working in the catering and hospitality industry (or those about to start work in the industry). 
 
This qualification focuses on the importance of food safety in the catering and hospitality sectors and provides food handlers with the knowledge of how they can contribute to product safety. Before starting work for the first time, food handlers need to be aware of the hazards and controls associated with food in catering operations. This qualification provides learners with information on preventing contamination, temperature abuse of food and the destruction of bacteria by thorough cooking. The importance of good personal hygiene, cleaning, waste management and recognising and reporting signs of pests are also stressed. 
 
On achieving this qualification candidates will be equipped with the knowledge to enable them to provide safe food thus assisting their employer’s business in complying with the law. 
 
Subjects covered include: 
an awareness of hazards and controls associated with food in catering operations 
contamination prevention 
temperature abuse of food and the importance of thorough cooking and rapid cooling 
personal hygiene 
cleaning and disinfection. 
 
The topics covered in this qualification are essential to the production of safe food. The Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering is recognised internationally and has been developed to protect customers, brand reputation and profits. 
Course Duration : Half day 
Half day course including examination 
 
Assessment 
This qualification is assessed through a 15-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 30 minutes. 
 
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 10 out of 15.
